About
Founded in October 2017, Big Red Dance Project (BRDP) is a collective of adults who expand the notion of who can dance in our current society. Grounded in the classical modern dance traditions of founder and artistic director Gerri Houlihan, BRDP challenges the stereotypes that modern dancers must be young, thin, and competitive. With dancers ranging in age from 35–70+, the group includes a community of movers who are both experienced and new to performance, as well as a visual artist, a dance filmmaker, dance educators, and medical personnel. The company performs annual sold out seasons at the Durham Arts Council and additional performances throughout the year through its Community Outreach Program.
